Welcome to KUMA

Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon
MBBS(Dist) BSc(Hons) FRCS(Tr&Orth)
University of Toronto Citywide Foot & Ankle Fellow 2023-24
After qualifying from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2011, Joon undertook his foundation and core surgical training in London. He undertook his Trauma and Orthopaedic training on the South East London rotation including King's College Hospital and Guy's & St Thomas' hospital before completing his UK training at the Royal London Hospital, Europe's busiest major trauma centre.
His involvement with KUMA began as a founding committee member of the original Korea Medical group in the UK in 2006. Since then he has held many committee roles, including being the President of the Student group (KUMAS) and more recently KUMA in 2022. He has greatly enjoyed being involved with the organisation and most values the lasting relationships he has made through KUMA, both locally and internationally.
Within his orthopaedic training he has travelled to international centres in the US (Harvard, Boston and Columbia Univ, NY), Sydney, Australia, Korea and Canada. He has also volunteered around the world including Madagascar, Cambodia and North Korea and noted that the golden thread interlinking good patient care to be team-based patient-centred services and a collective and individual pursuit of continuous improvement.
Joon will be pursuing a career specialising in Foot & Ankle surgery alongside Orthopaedic Trauma when not spending time with his wife and son. He continues to follow KUMA from afar whilst continuing his mentor role from his time in the UK.

He has found his time working with the Korean medical society very rewarding in building relationships with fellow Korean medical colleagues and in being able to give back to the wider immigrant community.
Cha-ney is currently undergoing fellowship training in Interventional Neuroradiology in Vancouver, Canada and continues to be encouraged by the continuous growth and development of KUMA.
